Introducing Craft + Boogie

New name, new game! Meghan’s Craft Kits, LLC has changed its name to Craft + Boogie, inspiring happy, crafty fun in all of us.

Portland, Oregon: On Tuesday, the local business Meghan’s Craft Kits changed its name to Craft + Boogie. The decision came after founder Meghan McCloskey left her job at Nike, Inc., to pursue her passion—running her craft kit business—full-time.

“There was absolutely no thought put into the name Meghan’s Craft Kits,” McCloskey says. “I needed a URL so I could sell these boxes, and that one was available. With three kiddos and a full-time job at Nike, I didn’t have time to think of anything better!”

That was in June 2017, when the Portland mom sold her first craft kit—a box of Independence Day-themed crafts, games and decorations inspired by her favorite family traditions.

“The boxes have always been about more than just crafts. They’re about celebrating, doing something besides sitting in front of a screen, having fun with family, showing gratitude,” McCloskey explains. “I love the word ‘boogie’ because it sort of captures the essence of celebrating and partying, but in a childlike way. When my son mistook the word for ‘booger’ and thought it was the funniest thing in the world, I knew I’d hit the mark.”

Some other changes are coming to the small business this month, too. Since September 2017, with the help of many volunteers, McCloskey has donated hundreds of craft and activity kits to Oregon children in foster care through With Love. But starting in October, she and her team will also be donating to the The Family Room and OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

"Moms tell me me stories about their kids bouncing out of bed at 6:30am asking to play with these kits. I think kids feel special when they get to spend such creative and quality time with their parents," McCloskey says. “All kids should have more opportunities to feel that way, whether they’re in their own homes, in the care of foster families, or enduring long stays at the hospital.”
