Nature scavenger hunt

In the pacific northwest, fall is the best time of year for nature walks and scavenger hunts! Last Sunday we had the kids find all sorts of items and check them off a list—including litter to throw in the trash. We used everything we found (except for the live animals and airplane!) for art projects, of course.

Our list of things to find:

Red leaf
Brown lead
Moss
Stick
Rock
Acorn
Pinecone
Flower petals
Bird or squirrel
Airplane
Litter (to throw in the trash)

It was no surprise that Jack spotted an airplane before anyone else. (What is this thing with babies and airplanes?) The hardest item to find was the flower petal. As we're nearing winter, there aren't many of those around anymore.

Give this nature walk and scavenger hunt a try, and let me know how your kids enjoy it!
